Sail Thailand - Trial Run
Be a trailblazer, test a new route. Together we explore sea caves, secret lagoons, buzzing beach bars and iconic locations in Thailand.
8 Days / 7 Nights
We’ll gather in Phuket before setting sail into the Andaman Sea. Over seven unforgettable days, you’ll live and work as crew while we island-hop through Thailand’s most spectacular spots.
Highlights include hidden lagoons, swimming in sea caves, and exploring Phang Nga Bay’s towering limestone cliffs.
Our route takes us to James Bond Island, Phi Phi’s vibrant beaches, and Maya Bay made famous by The Beach. By day, we’ll be sailing, swimming, and soaking up the sun. By night, it’s a mix of peaceful anchorages under the stars and lively beach bars ashore.
Life on board means close-quarters living, cooking, sailing together, and sharing the adventure with your crew. With just four catamarans on this special test run, it’s all about teamwork, exploration, and those brilliant Plan B moments.
Whether it’s a quiet sunset in a mangrove bay or dancing barefoot on the sand, this adventure promises the perfect blend of challenge and celebration.

Day 1: Arrival Day - Ao Po Grand Marina
We gather in Phuket, meeting at Sunsail’s base at Ao Po Grand Marina. The afternoon is all about settling in and getting ready for the adventure ahead. Crews come together on their catamarans, stow gear, shop for provisions, and get to know their boats (and each other).
As the sun sets, we come together for a welcome dinner; a relaxed, sociable start to the week, setting the tone for the sailing, sunsets, and shared moments to come.

Day 2: Set Sail - Ao Po Grand Marina > James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) > Koh Roi
Distance: ~18 NM
Our first full day on the water begins. We sail into the heart of Phang Nga Bay, weaving between dramatic limestone karsts rising straight from turquoise seas. Passing Koh Hong, we glide by hidden lagoons, sea caves (known locally as hongs), and sheer cliffs that feel almost otherworldly.
We stop at James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan), made famous by The Man with the Golden Gun, before slipping away from the crowds to somewhere far quieter.
By late afternoon, we anchor at peaceful Koh Roi, surrounded by mangroves and calm waters. Sunset drinks on the beach give us time to reflect on the day, followed by dinner back on board under the stars.
Anchor: Koh Roi (quiet anchorage)

Day 3: Koh Roi > Railay Beach (Krabi)
Distance: ~20 NM
We continue south, sailing towards the iconic cliffs of Railay. Towering limestone walls frame white-sand beaches, with longtail boats drifting by and climbers scaling the rock faces above.
There’s time to explore Phra Nang Cave Beach, take a swim, or simply soak up the atmosphere. As evening approaches, we anchor off Railay and head ashore for sunset drinks and dinner on Railay West Beach, where the mood is lively but laid-back.
Anchor: Railay East or West

Day 4: Railay > Phi Phi Don
Distance: ~25 NM
Today we sail to the vibrant heart of the Andaman Sea, Phi Phi Don. After anchoring in Ao Tonsai, there’s time to hike to the famous viewpoint for panoramic island views, snorkel in Loh Dalum, or explore the buzzing shoreline.
As night falls, Phi Phi comes alive. We gather for drinks and dinner on the beach, with the option to dip into the island’s nightlife or simply enjoy the atmosphere with your crew.

Day 5: Phi Phi Don > Phi Phi Leh (Maya Bay) > Ko Lanta
Distance: ~25 NM
An early sail takes us to Phi Phi Leh, home to the legendary Maya Bay, made famous by The Beach. Surrounded by steep cliffs and emerald water, it’s one of Thailand’s most recognisable natural wonders.
From here, we head south to Ko Lanta, where the pace slows and the vibe becomes noticeably more relaxed. We anchor in beautiful Kantiang Bay, enjoy sunset drinks, and head ashore for dinner, a perfect contrast to the buzz of Phi Phi.

Day 6: Ko Lanta > Ko Muk (Emerald Cave) > Ko Racha Yai
Distance: ~30 NM (longer sailing day)
A big day on the water, with one of the trip’s most memorable highlights. At Ko Muk, we kayak or swim through a dark cave to emerge into the glowing Emerald Lagoon, a true hidden gem.
We then sail west towards Ko Racha Yai, known for its crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkelling. Anchoring in Patok Bay, we round off the journey with evening drinks and a final celebration on the beach, a barefoot, sunset-soaked send-off.

Group size
Our adventures vary in group size, but no matter the number, we pride ourselves on helping to build connections, and creating shared meaningful experiences.
This adventure is being run as a test run, with a small group of 32 adventurers.
What are the sleeping arrangements?
Our adventures take us far and wide; we see the world with new friends and take on challenges that take us out of our comfort zones. Part of the experience comes from living simply, honouring local culture, and embracing new environments. This can mean sleeping in (very) close quarters, from a tent under the stars, a boat cabin on the water, a hammock in the trees, or occasionally a very nice hotel. Shared spaces help foster connections; through shared laughs and whispered secrets, we form incredible friendships.
Accommodation type
Shared cabins, shared double beds.
Living as crew is part of the adventure, bunking up with a fellow adventurer. Due to the layout of the sailing boats used on this trip, all guests will be allocated shared cabins, and in most cases, this will include sharing a double bed with another guest. Couples together. Friends together. Solo travellers will be paired with another guest of the same gender where possible.
We’re (almost) the full package!
We like to keep things simple, so our cost price covers almost everything you’ll need. Occasionally there may be a few exceptions, but we’ll always make these clear in advance.
In some destinations, country-specific taxes can’t be included in the adventure price and must be paid for by the individual. For full details, please refer to the “What’s Included / What’s Not Included” section.
What’s included
All meals (except dinner on the day of arrival) and boat supplies/costs (food, water, fuel, mooring etc) are included. We will give each boat crew money to buy supplies for breakfasts and lunches, but everyone pitches in to make them on board the boats. All evening meals are included once we leave port. We all dine together in the designated restaurants.
